Robert Howsare’s pintograph drawing apparatus

Watch more with these video collections:

A Sharpie pen is attached to the end of a wood scissor mechanism. On the other two ends, records spin on two turntables at different spin rates, measured in revolutions per minute (rpm). The results of this pintograph apparatus by Robert Howsare are oblong spirograph-style pieces that are created with sweeping movements and sounds. From Howsare’s site:

“The drawings become documentation of the performance, reminding the viewer of the mechanisms and sounds of the apparatus at work. Printmaking’s ability to create multiples of an image is also referenced in its ability to replicate the designs it creates. Drawing Apparatus situates itself across disciplines and asks us to reconsider our own notions of performance, drawing and printmaking.”
