Join Dr Charlotte Uhlenbroek as she treks into northwest Rwanda to meet a family of critically endangered mountain gorillas for the first time. This was filmed for the BBC nature documentary series Cousins (2000).

Little Rickina is a baby orangutan that was rescued from a suspected poacher, and is now being cared for at the Ketapang Orangutan Rescue Center, operated by International Animal Rescue. As a critically endangered orphan, she’s had a very difficult life, but this video shares a bit about the safe community that she’s now adjusting to. For more information, visit RedApes.org.

Monkeyland Primate Sanctuary is the world’s first free roaming primate sanctuary, home to over 500 primates all living together in 30 acres of forest. Species at the sanctuary include gibbons, capuchins, squirrel monkeyshowler monkeys, saki monkeys, vervet monkeys, langurs, ring-tailed lemurs and black and white ruffed lemurs.

Just a few months old, Baby Gladys is an adorable little gorilla that is currently being raised by a team of 10 human surrogates at the Cincinnati Zoo. She and the potential surrogate gorilla mothers at the zoo are learning about each other with the help of their human team. The goal is for one of the gorilla moms to take over Gladys’ care within the next few weeks.
