What’s that flying and flapping around on a test flight? That’s a flaptter from Studio Ghibli‘s Laputa: Castle in the Sky (1986), written and directed by Hayao Miyazaki. 

This RC “insect” was built by YouTuber Kazuhiko Kakuta, whose love for flying inspired him to build ornithopters, machines that fly by flapping their wings. In addition to a huge collection of flying machines, he also built a radio-controlled Totoro
