Studio Ghibli Tributes: A homemade RC Flaptter and Totoro

What’s that flying and flapping around on a test flight? That’s a flaptter from Studio Ghibli‘s Laputa: Castle in the Sky (1986), written and directed by Hayao Miyazaki.

This RC “insect” was built by YouTuber Kazuhiko Kakuta, whose love for flying inspired him to build ornithopters, machines that fly by flapping their wings. In addition to a huge collection of flying machines, he also built a radio-controlled Totoro

There are more things flying and spinning in the archives.

This Webby award-winning video collection exists to help teachers, librarians, and families spark kid wonder and curiosity. TKSST features smarter, more meaningful content than what's usually served up by YouTube's algorithms, and amplifies the creators who make that content.
