In a lucky twist of timing, baby ducklings fall into the tender care of a cat just after she gives birth to kittens. This remarkable, highly unusual story from a small family farm in Ireland, is a clip from the BBC’s Animal Odd Couples. The program is narrated by biologist Liz Bonnin.
What would cause these animals to bond with babies outside of their species? Bonnin follows the storybook cat and duckling relationship with a brief but heartbreaking account of a lioness who adopted a baby oryx. It’s a tempering tale about predator and prey relationships in the wild.
