Chino Hills High School singers cover ‘Over the Rainbow’ while social distancing

As communities attempt to flatten the curve through social distancing, schools have closed around the globe, pausing everyday life for almost one billion students. But while so many activities are on hold, some events are taking on new forms.

This remotely-recorded performance of “Over the Rainbow” by the Chino Hills High School Chamber Singers is a wonderful example. When their annual Chino Valley Unified School District (CVUSD) Choral Festival was canceled, the chamber singers got together online from their separate homes with their a cappella version. The piece is based on Israel KamakawiwoΚ»ole‘s famous arrangement.

The school district explains that “their harmonious performance was shared online for the CVUSD community with the goal of spreading hope and cheer during this difficult time.”

Previously on TKSST: Judy Garland sings Over the Rainbow for U.S. troops (1943).

Plus: The multi-screen cello performances of Cremaine Booker and Pachelbel’s Chicken & other chicken instrument performances.
