The Kid Should See This

LEGO Mindstorms EV3 Pipe Cleaner Bending Robot

Programmed to bend and curve pipe cleaners at just the right points to make shapes, this LEGO Mindstorms EV3 Pipe Cleaner Bending Robot creates colorful magic wands. The machine was designed and built by prolific pro LEGO builder Yoshihito Isogawa of Isogawa Studio in Japan.

Watch as it makes stars, hearts, clovers, flowers, and other familiar forms. As kid inventor Allie Weber notes in the video’s comments: “…shaped pipe cleaners also make great bubble wands!” It would also be useful for making wire gears.

Isogawa is also the author of a highly recommended collection of LEGO building idea books.
