Witness the first moments when Waddles the duck is fitted with a new prosthetic leg. In this NatGeo Wild video, a clip from National Geographic‘s The Wizard of Paws, pet prosthetic specialist and Bionic Pets owner Derrick Campana has Waddles’ new 3D-printed foot and leg attachment. It was created by Campana’s team from a leg mold made during a previous visit.
Though Waddles is unsure of the piece at first, he quickly starts putting weight on it. Waddles’ owner, guitarist Ben Weinman, is thrilled with the results. He explains in the clip:
I didn’t think I would be, like, emotional about this. But when you take these animals, all you want to do is give them a good life and do right by them. And you see them struggling, and you think there’s nothing you could do. It’s, it’s really heartbreaking. So yeah, Derek knocked it out of the park.
