When Lucy Ricardo (Lucille Ball) and Ethel Mertz (Vivian Vance) tried to quickly wrap chocolates traveling on a conveyor belt, they were unable to keep up with the demanding pace. Keeping up with the speed of these chocolate wrapping machines—400 sweets per minute—would be completely impossible.
In this clip from Inside the Food Factory, host Gregg Wallace visits a chocolate factory where the chocolates line up like marching ants and the wrapping machines are too fast to observe in real-time.
Julie Meyer gives Wallace a tour of the machines’ capabilities and then advances them manually at slower speeds so that he (and we) can see each step of how the chocolates are wrapped.
