Pea pufferfish are captivating little creatures that are popular with aquarists around the globe. In this Keeping Fish Simple video, hobbyist turned professional aquarist Nick Mandicos documents The Life Cycle of a Pea Pufferfish as he cares for pufferfish parents, their eggs, and the healthy fry that soon hatch, eat, and grow into lively juveniles.

“Just look at how chubby they are. It’s easy to see why I love them so much.”

“I’ve always been mesmerized by the circle of life and find breeding fish to be one of the best ways to explore this never-ending fascination.

“It has been a long-term goal of mine to breed these fish, and our story starts with my small colony of adult pea puffers… I got them as babies from a local breeder over a year ago, and now they’re adults. It was time for me to try and breed them, too.”

When Mandicos was a little kid, he dabbled in fish-keeping and breeding. He soon started a fish-focused YouTube channel for fun. As it gained traction, Mandicos launched a breeding business, converting his granddad’s garage into a breeding room with multiple tanks.

Now he has a small tropical fish and aquarium shop in Brisbane, Australia, where he sells his locally bred fish.
