Sunflowers, a reduction-printed linocut by Elina Adrshina

Watch more with these video collections:

Linocut artist Elina Adrshina crafted this Sunflowers print with nine colors carefully layered one on top of the other.

In the video above, Adrshina showcases the technique of reduction printing, a meticulous process where each color pass is intricately cut and printed within the same linoleum block. With each layer, the block undergoes further carving.

Prints from a reduction block are part of a limited edition; by the final color, the block’s early layers are cut away, making it impossible to recreate the layered print from the same block.

Watch as she inks and prints eight layers of bright yellows, rich browns, soothing greens, soft lavender, deep teal, and bold maroon to illustrate these iconic flowers.
